The Mission
My mission was to bring the various SCG podcasts to life through brand new 3D animations that capture the attention and introduce each video production through a strong level of polish and style. Each coach and player that steps food onto the stage before each podcast is powerful and adamant within the game of baseball, and I wanted these introductions to carry the same weight. From a technical standpoint, I needed to create several different introductions for the various productions; with the main ones in focus being the Weekend Recap and Untamed or UB Holds.
The Outcome
This collection starts and finishes each episode with their own given introduction; something that begins and finishes the experience for the viewer in a special way. Each episode shares a centralized feel; crafted to reflect the overall identity across all of the productions while being fresh and unique in their own respects.
Value Delivered
The value given from this collection serves to enhance the podcasts into something bigger; something that demands attention. These aren’t just introductions to various videos, they become their own visual identity that showcase viewers the level of quality they can expect in the coming video; even before it starts.
My Approach
My approach in handling this was to create quick yet visually impressive animations that play either at the beginning, ending or even throughout any given production. I wanted them to be quick; yet leave an impression on the viewer. I crafted the identity to be clean and striking; with bold pompous blues that reflect on silver backgrounds that really seem to jump out of the frame. While the colors for Untamed are blue and gold, I took the creative liberty to shift the palette to be more blue focused; using the gold as a highlight rather than a primary, as the way the colors are used is currently hard on the eyes at times in certain applications. From its concept to final render, I wanted to focus on the technical precision. By using Cinema4D along with Octane Render, I crafted a set of materials and textures that felt cinematic. Every detail—from lighting to camera movement—was carefully considered and tested to build an intro that was filled with energy and triumph; just like the sport of baseball.
My Process
My process started similarly to how I do with almost every project; with research and sketching. Taking notes and inspiration from various forms of Broadcast Design associated with the sport of baseball such as ESPN, the MLB and various college baseball teams, I began to craft my storyboards that began to paint my vision. After solidifying what I wanted it to look like, it was time to craft my vision within a 3D space. I crafted a scene that encapsulated everything within the prior steps, and then the deeper steps of finalization started. My process wrapped up with revisions and optimization, ensuring the final deliverables are not only visually striking but also easy for me to incorporate within each video production.
Closing Thoughts
This project uses the power of motion design along with 3D software to create something striking. With plenty of baseball teams and organizations sprouting up across not only New Jersey but the entire United States, a distinct, high-quality intro isn’t just a stylistic choice—it’s a strategic advantage to have. By merging thoughtful design with technical execution, these animations not only enhance the viewing experience for any parent, player, or coach, but also strengthen the identity and professionalism for Untamed Baseball and the other SCG companies.
